Crates & Lootboxes

Minecraft Crate Plugins

Three crate plugins from one author, each built around a different idea. Advanced Crates renders 17 animations as packets on a separate thread and runs with zero dependencies. InfiniteCrates ships 26 crate models, 7 key models and 25 GUI animations and adds a virtual crate selector, so players open crates anywhere. SpecializedCrates has 25 animations plus a config-driven builder for your own, and lucky chests that players find while mining.

The Crates & Keys Pack is an add-on for Advanced Crates only: 50+ pre-configured keys and reward packs in a six-tier rarity structure that you drop into the Advanced Crates configs directory.

Advanced Crates and SpecializedCrates support Spigot and Paper 1.8 through 26.2; InfiniteCrates targets 1.20.6 and newer because its crate models rely on the included texture pack. All three have an in-game editor, physical and virtual keys, and accept ItemsAdder, Oraxen and MMOItems items as rewards. The crates plugin comparison goes feature by feature.

Frequently asked questions

Which crate plugin should I pick?

Advanced Crates if you want packet-based animations with no dependencies on any version from 1.8 up. InfiniteCrates if you run 1.20.6 or newer and want the included crate and key models plus the /crates virtual selector. SpecializedCrates if you want to build your own animations in config or add lucky chests found while mining.

Do the crate plugins need a hologram plugin?

Advanced Crates and InfiniteCrates have crate and reward holograms built in. SpecializedCrates uses DecentHolograms or CMI for crate holograms, Citizens v2 for NPC crates and PlaceholderAPI for its placeholders.

Does the Crates & Keys Pack work with InfiniteCrates or SpecializedCrates?

No. The pack is specifically for Advanced Crates; the other two crate plugins use different animation and reward architectures. Every key in the pack is a normal Advanced Crates config file you can edit.

Will crate animations lag the server?

Advanced Crates and InfiniteCrates calculate every animation on a separate processor core and send it as packets, so the server tick loop never processes animation data.

Guides

Choosing a Minecraft Crates Plugin

Every crates plugin demos well; the differences show up when you balance reward odds, watch TPS at spawn, or update Minecraft versions. This guide lays out the criteria that actually matter, looks honestly at the strong free options, and explains which of our three crates plugins — if any — fits your server.

Setting Up Advanced Crates: From First Crate to Reward Rerolls

Advanced Crates needs no other plugin, so the first crate is a matter of minutes. The decisions that matter come after it: which of the 17 animations to use, who gets to see them, and how rewards, one-time prizes and rerolls should behave. This guide is that first day, in order, ending with the add-on pack for servers that would rather not design key tiers by hand.

Virtual Crates Players Can Open Anywhere with InfiniteCrates

A crate that lives in a menu instead of at spawn changes how players use it: no walk, no block, no key item to lose. InfiniteCrates adds that as a third crate type next to stationary and lootbox crates, and ships the crate models, key models and GUI animations it opens with. This guide sets it up and is honest about the one client-side requirement.

Building Your Own Crate Animations with SpecializedCrates

Most crate plugins give you a fixed list of animations. SpecializedCrates ships 25 of them and then hands you the format they are written in, so a new animation is a config entry rather than a Java plugin. This guide covers what the builder can describe, how to test an animation with the in-game editor and the /scrates commands, and the crate types that will play it.

Which Plugins Work With ItemsAdder, Oraxen and Nexo

Eight of the plugins here name ItemsAdder, Oraxen, Nexo or MMOItems for themselves in their own product record, and no two of them mean the same thing by it. (A ninth, InfiniteCropsRegions, names them only by restating the optional integrations of InfiniteCrops, the plugin it is a dependency of.) One puts those items in a crate reward pool, one charges players in them, one never touches your items and instead hands its own textures over to be hosted. This is every one of them in a single table, including the cells where a record says nothing.

Which Plugins Need Vault, ProtocolLib or PlaceholderAPI

A dependency you did not expect is the fastest way to turn a ten-minute install into an evening. This is the whole catalogue in one table: what each plugin requires before it will start, what it merely uses when it finds it, and which downloads are add-ons that need a base plugin first. Every entry is what that product page states, and nothing more.
